What is acidity?

Acidity or acid reflux may be a quite common condition moving several Indians. This condition is characterized by heartburn felt around the lower chest area that is caused by the abdomen acid flowing back up into the food pipe. Only a few people understand the unhealthy eating habits and poor lifestyle choices that cause this condition
The food we tend to eat passes down the esophagus into the abdomen. The gastric glands within the abdomen produce acid that is important to digest the food and to kill any germs. Acidity happens once the gastric glands produce an oversized quantity of acid, over what is required for the digestion process. This condition is characterized by a burning sensation simply above the abdomen, or right below the sternum (the hollow part). This condition is incredibly common in India due to the heavy consumption of oily and spicy foods by Indians.

People who skip their meals or don't eat at correct time are also prone to hyper acidity symptoms. Symptoms of GERD includes the taste of acid in the back of the mouth, heartburn, bad breath, chest pain, vomiting, breathing problems, and wearing away of the teeth. Complications include esophagitis, esophageal stricture, and Barrett's esophagus.
